Our Story

From the humble beginning, our name couldn’t be closer to the truth. HOB, aka Heart Of Balham, refers to the longevity and location of our much-loved eatery, making us a well-established part of the local community.

Being the second generation to the success of HOB, my brother and I had a vision from the day we took over the helm from the “Godfather”, our father, Mr A!

Growing up in a strongly food-oriented family nurtured our connection with our roots and country of origin, Morocco.

Inheriting a successful cafe we embarked on bringing Balham a taste of our upbringing from a North African and Middle-eastern home, we decided to share these flavours by incorporating them within our well-known breakfast and brunch dishes.

Upon arrival at HOB, you’ll be greeted by one of our lovely serving staff and experience personal service from a business that still after almost 28 years has a friendly, family atmosphere and where every guest is treated as a part of the HOB family.

“Besseha”…

Menu

With a love of traditional flavours and spices, We have aimed to represent these through some of the traditional Breakfast & Brunch foods as well as giving you flavours and colours with some staple and authentic foods from Palestine, Giza, Marrakech, Turkey and Lebanon.

HOB
is an extension of our home and with just one bite you’ll feel like you’re sitting amongst the magic and mayhem of Marrakech!

"In an area filled with excellent brunch options, this North African cafe on Balham high street is one that will have you googling house prices in SW12. A cosy little spot that’s often packed on the weekend, this is the place to come for an excellent halal full English. Just about everything on the menu that includes their roasted seasoned potatoes is a winner. As well as the tasty brunch options, they serve chermoula chicken burgers and pastas from 11am. If you’re torn between the buttermilk pancakes or another hot chocolate with marshmallows, get the Moroccan msemen for dessert and thank us later."

So shocked I haven't rated this gem of a cafe sooner! I've not spent so much money so consistently in London 😅 it's amazing. My favourite dish is chicken and waffle! Food is usually very fresh. I usually go on Sunday and there tends to be about a 10 min wait between 11-1, but by one is much better. The staff are wonderful. The only pull back is of course, the size of the place but they do their best to seat people

Lovely food. But a very small venue. Felt a bit overcrowded.

Went there for a Sunday brunch. The staff was lovely. I was delighted to find so many Vegan option and my family was happy to have halal options too. It was delicious and the amount of food on the plates was perfect ( not too much and not too little).

LOVE this place so much, I wish it wasn’t as popular as it as it can sometimes be hard to get a seat depending on what times your go. BUT it’s worth it. Amazing food with good portion sizes, friendly & attentive staff literally in the heart of Balham - you guys should start doing loyalty cards!
